John Francis Daniels, 87, lifelong resident of Petoskey, died February 28, 2022, at his home.
John was born August 2, 1934, the son of Joseph and Mildred (Stewart) Daniels. He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1952. Shortly after, John joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until his discharge in 1957.
He returned home and married the love of his life, Dianna Jewell, at St. Francis Xavier Church on January 30, 1960. Together, they had 6 children and shared 51 years happily married until Dianna’s death in 2011.
John worked as an auto parts salesman pretty much his entire life. He started at NAPA in Petoskey and Boyne City, and also worked for Emmet Auto. He loved being a salesman and gave it his all.
In his spare time, John enjoyed polka dancing with Dianna, working in his vegetable gardens, and being with family. He was also an extremely talented athlete and was active in fast pitch softball for 26 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus, and recently took up Wii Bowling at the Emmet County Friendship Center.
After spending 87 years in the same town, it was almost impossible for John to go out without running into a friend or someone to talk to. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his children, Teresa Homrich of Petoskey, Susan Stella of Grand Rapids, John M. Daniels of Petoskey, and Debbie Mallett of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and his oldest brother, Frank Daniels of Petoskey.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dianna; infant son John Earl Daniels; and daughter, Catherine Daniels.
A celebration of life is being planned and details will be announced soon.
Friends and family wishing to make a charitable donation are asked to please consider Mission 6 Service Dogs (missionsix.org) in memory of John.
Final arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home.
