He was the owner of Walt's Automotive in Indio for more than 36 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years. Survivors include his wife, Dawne; a son, Walter J. of Yucca Valley; a daughter, Marcia S. Ortegel of Twin Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two brothers, Minard of Idyllwild and Richard of Indio; and two sisters, Juanita Dobbins of Carson City, Nev., and Patricia Safford of Hampden, Mass. Ligman on May 16, 1949, in Tacoma, Wash. She retired from Security Pacific Bank in Indio as assistant manager, then worked for the Richard Bagdasarian Ranch. She is survived by her son, John of Yucca Valley; her daughter, Marcia Ortegel of Twin Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Walter, in 1999. Services were private. The family suggests donations to the Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice, Yucca Valley.
