Fantastic ! I was wondering why the reference to Louie. First, I am not a volunteer at the Historical Society, but set up the F.B. page for Marcia. For some reason, you came to my attention when checking the Historical Society's page for span and other things. I have an interest in railroading here, and as soon as I saw youe question, I knew you were talking about the P S & N. We probably have more in common than you realize. I see that Marcia has jumped in here, so I better clarify that this is a text from Bill Hoehn. My mother was Bernetta T Lenze Hoehn. She was the daughter of John L. and Mary O.Daniel Lenze. Her father was Theodore. That is why I knew about Appolonia Wegemer. I or Marcia's husband Don can probably help with most of the St. Marys and a part of the Petoskey Michigan bunch.
About Louie. He was an old bachelor that lived alone in a shanty on West Mill St. Ext. and raised rabbits and chickens, kept a garden, had no running water and carried his meager use of that liquid from a spring across the railroad track behind his house. He had a deal with the local A & P Market to pick up outdated produce for his animals, but he likely used some of that himself. Marcia will likely remember him pulling a wagon through town with the scraps from the store. The lot he owned, sold to him by my grandparents was never completely paid for, but because he had little or no income, foreclosure was never a possibility. I think he made his own wine and liked to tipple a little. You can probably help me with some of The Older stuff. You have a lot of thoughts spinning in this old head. Many Daniel related young children had a problem with their feet turning inward. The old time solution was to put their shoes on the wrong feet to help with turning the toes outward. Supposed to have been American Indian genes that caused this. One of my own children had this trait. Any truth to the American Indian Ancestry ?
