      Michael Prechtel Called by Death

Michael Prechtel, highly respected citizen of this community since birth 78 years ago, answer death’s summons at this home on Maurus street Tuesday afternoon and thus ended a lingering illness dating back about six years. As a good Christian man he withstood his affiliation with good grace and constant cheerfulness and when the end approached he was well fortified for the “great adventure” of which the poet speaks.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock. Services will be conducted in the St. Marys church, and burial will be made in parish cemetery.

Mr. Prechtel was born in the Flower Valley section of Benzinger Township, September 12, 1856, and during the span of his years allotted to productive labor he worked at various occupation, including service at some of the local industrial plants. His last employment was with the Elk Fire Brick Company, but when he became too feeble to carry on he found employment as night watchman for the Nilco Lamp Works, but was forced by illness to quit the job about six years ago.

The deceased was married on Thanksgiving Day, 1898, to Miss Margaret Baumer, who survives, as does one brother john Prechtel of Boone, Iowa. Three sisters have preceded him in death.

Mr. Prechtl was a quiet, unassuming man of sterling character, a good citizen and a devout communicant of the St. Marys church, and he leaves many friends to mourn his demise.
