Steven R. Wendel, 60, of St. Marys, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family following a long battle with cancer.

He was born on April 9, 1965 in St. Marys, a son of the late Laverne "Jerry" and Shirley Glessner Wendel.

On May 28, 1988, he married Mary Byrd Wendel, who survives. Together they shared more than 37 years of love and laughter.

Steve was a 1983 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He worked for 15 years at Keystone Powdered Metal and has been employed by MPP for the last 26 years. He was a longtime member of the PFL, CMF, and the American Legion. He loved spending time at camp, and also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting. He could often be found cheering on his granddaughters at their sporting events or relaxing at home watching the Dallas Cowboys or Penn State. One of the things he enjoyed most was watching game shows, especially The Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal, or Press Your Luck. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by three children; Josh Makufka of State College, Josh Krug and his wife Becca of St. Marys, and Kelsey (Wendel) Price and her husband Matthew of Stephens City, VA; and by his two beloved grandchildren; Kaylynn and Grace Krug. He is also survived by five siblings; Doreen (Roger) Steis of Valdosta, GA, Marijo (Joel) Lecker of Charlottesville, VA, Amy (Neil) Mulhearn of Chalfont, PA, Rachel (Kelly) Cragg of Corry, PA, and Russ (Debbie) Wendel of Weedville, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and a special cousin and friend; Bruce Brennen.

In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by a nephew; Ryan Steis.
