  • Notes

    • Thomas Kelly, son of Thomas was born on the La(r)ggin estate near Laxey on the Isle of Man. It is believed that he came to the United States when he was about 21 years of age, in 1849. Three sisters and one brother settled in the Cleveland area. I tis thought that Thomas came to the Mineral Point area of Wisconsin in 1853. In 1855, Thomas with the help of Misters Callow, Kewley, Cowley and Slillicorne, built the first Manx Church in the United States and called it Laxey Primitive Methodist Church. Thomas was a circuit preacher and an avid reader - a self educated man. His two youngers daughters, Dora Nettie (my mother-in-law) and Gertrude Kelly Baxter say he was a stern father.
